Project Northstar is a tutoring and mentoring program for children currently living in homeless shelters and transitional programs in Washington, DC, and for formerly homeless and at-risk students. Founded in 1989 as The Homeless Children's Tutorial Project, Project Northstar is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization with a proven track record of success. Since its inception, Project Northstar has served over 1200 children and was one of twenty-one organizations to receive the 1999 President's Service Award through the Points of Light Foundation.
We are currently accepting applications for new adult volunteers to work one-on-one with a child, one night a week, during the academic school year. Most tutoring sessions run from 6:15 to 8 pm, each meeting one night per week.
